Thanks for the plug, Richard. It is odd that I have not written about the process of creating the scan, and what I learned during and after--especially when I know how scarce this information is. I really like the idea of a collaborative scanning process as this deals with a couple of challenges: getting enough diversity in views, and umpty thousand libraries all doing essntially the same work. If there was a robust, ongoing process for scanning the environment for big trends, then individual institutions could focus on the trends in their own communities.
