There is a lot of existing work out there in terms of digital library services, as well as the much larger area of e-science services, and quite frankly it can be overwhelming to try to navigate and locate a reasonable subset of it. (Sounds like a job for a wiki...) Since enterprise architecture is my job, I am doing my best to explore this area.
Anyway, in the digital library space, Lorcan Dempsey's latest post covers three of them:
- VIEWS - [Library System] Vendor Initiative for Enabling Web Services
- Project Silkworm
- DLF Service Framework for Digital Libraries
It seems to me that Europe has been particularly active in terms of both the digital library and e-science areas. If anyone has any good pointers particularly to Service-Oriented Architectures in these areas, please let me know. I may do a follow-up posting covering my understanding of the e-science space.
