This month's National Geographic has an article A Passion for Order, by David Quammen (author of the excellent The Song of the Dodo). The article details the life of Linnaeus and how he came to create his classification system. Linnaeus was born 300 years ago, and is therefore a bit in the news this year. Don't miss the beautiful photo gallery that accompanies the online article.
It seems odd that classification and categorization, which most of us outside of libraries had never thought much about, is all the rage this year as a topic for books, articles, working groups and more.
