Ongoing apologies for my absence from blogging. I'm trying to figure out where and how to best continue.
I'm mostly microblogging on Twitter these days, as @scilib.
Choosing a position/role-specific nick turns out to have been a bit of an error, as I'm temporarily out of the library space. I have a new Interchange position as Senior Project Coordinator at TBS CIOB ORO. I'm working on a Web 2.0 Strategy for the Government of Canada, as well as data accessibility issues.
UPDATE: Forgot to add a clarification about the new position - it's a one-year assignment within the government. I am scheduled to return to NRC-CISTI in July 2011. ENDUPDATE
Some background info:
Interchange is a way for private sector employees to work temporarily in the government, or for government employees to work temporarily in the private sector or in other organisations. I'm on a one-year Interchange because for obscure reasons my home organisation (NRC) is considered a separate agency from the core of the government.
TBS, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat is a central policy agency of the government. The words on the site are "The Secretariat supports the Treasury Board in ensuring that government is well managed and accountable."
CIOB, CIO Branch, has a central IT policy role. "The Chief Information Officer Branch (CIOB) provides strategic direction and leadership for the government-wide pursuit of excellence in information management and information technology in the Government of Canada (GC)."
ORO, Organizational Readiness Office, has a role in the adoption of new technologies. "[ORO] leads a collaborative, enterprise-wide approach to community development in support of government change initiatives that impact the IM and IT communities"
(It was a lot easier when I could just say "I work for the National Science Library".)
