There's no FastPort adapter in my K790 phone to let you plug in a set of regular headphones. So...
One Sony Ericsson MMC-70 FastPort to male 3.5mm audio
One RadioShack (err, TheSource or whatever it's supposed to be called) 3.5mm female-to-female
and hey presto: FastPort headphone adapter
Sony MMC-70 from PureMobile.ca, since SonyStyle.ca doesn't seem to sell it.
In the US, you can buy an MMC-70 from Amazon.com.
So step one in using my K790 phone to replace an iPod is complete. The next test is to see whether it has anywhere near the battery life that is needed. Ideally I'd like to get 6 hours of audio out of it. Then I could replace ipod-on-a-plane. Of course, the iPod nano is pretty freaking small anyway, but it's the principle of the thing. Device consolidation.
