Some of Sony's new camcorders supports geotagging with built-in GPS. I'm assuming it's metadata that's only available in their software. Hopefully it will become standard for video at some point.

Here's a link to the HDR-XR520V: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665736672

Seems that the UK site has more information:

Built-in Memory Stick™ Duo and SD card slot for easy image/position matching with no PC needed

I preordered the unit ASAP after reading this post. Today I got the following e-mail from Sony Style USA:

"We would like to inform you that the status of your order has been updated. Shipment of the GPSCS3KA you purchased on order *** has been delayed and the new estimated ship date is 03/10/2009. You will receive an email as soon as your order is shipped."

It hasn't been delayed though...it looks like the ship date has been moved up about two weeks.

I'm interested in your other recomendations. I purchased the CS3 before my trip from the west coast to east and back. To my surprise the until does not automatically switch time as it passes from one time zone to another.

Do you know of other similar devices that does have this function?

Hi Richard,
Does the Sony GPS-CS3KA support geotagging Canon Raw II files for use in Google Earth.
If not, what can you recommend.

Bengt Nyman

Hi Richard,

Is the Sony GPS-CS3KA software capable of geotagging Canon Raw II (CR2) files?

Will it display your position

Richard Akerman

David, yes, it displays your position in Latitude / Longitude.

Thanks, Richard. I found the manual online and indeed it does display coordinates by toogling through display screens.

Guys, i really need your help:
No matter what time zone i choose, after transferring data into computer (Image Tracker) always shows my current time, less 1 hour. And i can not do anything in order to set correct time.
Example: On GPS unit time set at 10:30PM. But after transferring log data to the computer, magically it becomes 9:30PM
Any ideas?
Thank you for your time.
